There are 2 ways of submitting articles or news items to The Red Devils:

1. Post to the blog
2. Submit an article (Usually longer form - a "major" story for the newsletter and/or website)

The blog is more of a running list of headlines or timely events, as a new story gets posted, the previous one gets pushed down. While a story like "Important information about the 2006 stroll" is better suited as a permanent link on the home page, it certainly should be posted to the blog as well.

The submit article page can be used by anyone, articles can be reviewed and considered this way, but will not appear immediately on the site.

Posts to the blog are immediately published and appear on the site.

How to use the TRD news blog

1. Contact henry@the-red-devils.org to get a username and password
2. Visit http://www.the-red-devils.org/wordpress/wp-login.php and log in
3. Click the "write" button at the top left
4. Write the title and body of the post (I recommend composing the body in a text editor and then pasting)
5. Hit publish to publish the story
6. Remember you can edit and or delete the post at any time
7. Visit http://www.the-red-devils.org/wordpress/ to see how it looks

How to post images to accompany your post:

1. Determine the image you want to use and make sure it is not longer than 350 pixels in either direction and is under 200KB. Most picture viewers have a "properties" or "info" function that will display this information.
2. If the image is over 200KB or is longer than 350 pixels in either direction, you will have to use an editor to adjust the file and save a smaller version of it. NOTE - MOST IMAGES FROM DIGITAL CAMERAS WILL NEED TO BE RESAMPLED AS THEY ARE TYPICALLY ~2000 PIXELS IN EITHER DIMENSION
3. Use a free program like irfanview to resample the image - www.irfanview.com
4. Using irfanview - open the image in irfanview and type ctrl-R
5. Specify the longest side to be 350 pixels
6. Choose "save as"
7. Pick a different file name
8. Choose jpg as the file type/format
9. Remember the location of this newly saved file
10. Visit http://www.the-red-devils.org/wordpress and log in
11. Choose "upload" button on the top right
12. Hit browse, specify the file and choose "upload"
13. If there are no errors, the resulting page will produce the code you need to link to the image in your post, something like - <img src='/wp-content/imagename.jpg' alt='' />
14. Copy and paste that line of code (including the <> symbols) into your post and the image will be placed in the post - I recommend that you place it at the top.
